ZLABS
ZLABS Product Design + Engineering

Design and engineering for physical products.

Strategy, industrial design, engineering and prototyping from the team that designed and engineered complete electric vehicles at Zero Labs Automotive. We take ambitious hardware from the first sketch to a production-ready design, and with BigEV as our supply chain partner, each product is matched with the manufacturers who build it. ZLABS is a design and engineering practice, and manufacturing is carried out by our partners.

Where Zero Labs Automotive stands today

Zero Labs Automotive concluded all manufacturing and ceased operations at the end of 2024. The design and engineering experience behind these vehicles now carries forward at ZLABS, which applies it to products for other companies. The vehicles shown here are past programs and are no longer offered for sale.

Nine years building complete vehicles taught us how to solve complexity at every scale.

A vehicle is one of the hardest products anyone can make. Thousands of components, mechanical, electrical, thermal and software systems, and demanding safety and performance requirements all have to work as one. Zero Labs took that on from the ground up and delivered finished vehicles to customers starting in 2021. The numbers below are what that work earned.

Zero Labs Automotive: the story so far

What we do

Every engagement can start at any stage. We work the whole path to manufacturability, so the product that leaves our studio is one a factory can build and a market can buy.

Strategy

Product definition, positioning, program planning and the business case that gets a product funded and launched.

Zero Labs proof. Zero Labs defined platform programs for four vehicle classes, spanning models built from 1947 to 1975.

Industrial Design

Form, materials, color and finish, interiors and every detail a customer touches.

Zero Labs proof. The first carbon fiber electric Bronco, with interiors of CNC-milled aluminum, hand-fitted leather and wood.

Engineering

Mechanical, electrical and systems engineering, including chassis, suspension, high-voltage power, thermal management and controls.

Zero Labs proof. A modular electric platform with 85 and 100 kWh battery options, independent suspension and up to 600 HP dual-motor drive.

Prototyping

CAD and 3D development, CNC and laser-cut parts, fabrication, test builds and validation.

Zero Labs proof. Development vehicles and a complete demonstration chassis built for design validation.

Design for Manufacturing

Production-ready designs with bills of materials, tooling plans, assembly documentation and quality standards, ready to hand to a manufacturer.

Zero Labs proof. Bills of materials and manufacturing documentation across multiple vehicle programs, with a conversion process designed for installation in as little as one day.

Supply Chain, with BigEV

Sourcing, vendor discovery and manufacturer partnerships through BigEV, our supply chain partner representing thousands of manufacturers.

Zero Labs proof. BigEV maps the global cleantech and EV economy, with intelligence on 50 million companies and a billion products.

Supply chain partner

Design, engineering and supply chain in one partnership

ZLABS and BigEV work as one team, so the people designing a product and the people sourcing it share the same plan from the first day. We design and engineer the product. BigEV connects it to the manufacturers, components and suppliers that build it at scale, drawing on a network of thousands of manufacturers.

The vehicles are case studies in complexity

Each Zero Labs program combined industrial design, systems architecture, electrical integration, materials development and production engineering. Here is what each one proves.

Carbon Fiber Classic Electric Bronco
